History of the Denim Jacket: A symbol of rebellion

Denim has been a staple in many people’s closet. It is stylish and chic and remains a classic fashion item. The denim jacket goes back over 200 years when it was used as uniforms for the US Army and Navy. It was therefore viewed as a garment worn by respected people. Many years on, however, this image would mould and change until denim would ultimately represent a form of casual rebellion.

The denim jacket made one of its biggest marks on the world when American singer Bing Crosby wore an all-denim ensemble in the 1950s and was consequently refused entrance into a high-end hotel in Canada. He was the talk of the town after this fashion fiasco and Levi’s even created a custom-made denim tuxedo jacket so that he would not have an issue entering fancy establishments wearing denim. Since then, a full denim ensemble has been dubbed, the Canadian Tuxedo.
