Old Meets New: Fashion That Has Never Aged With Time

Old Meets New: Fashion That Has Never Aged With Time

Being well-dressed is a discipline and a lifelong learning curve. And yes, I do know that “a uniform” is the holy grail of modern style. It says you know who you are and what you want to project, all condensed into a single outfit with whatever exclamation mark added in the form of the perfect accessory.
.
But uniforms can adapt: see Kate Moss, Stella Tennant, Emmanuelle Alt, and Inès de la Fressange, who all constantly recalibrate their stylistic affiliations while staying true to their essence. Static style, on the other hand, is the sartorial equivalent of having your face Botoxed and filled until it’s an unmovable mask of fear. So, as you grow, let your style grow with you.
Here are a few tips to upgrade your fashion journey:
.
Your shoes
.
Do not go quietly into the navy mid-heel pump, or the plain loafer, or the really useful (so comfy) trainer. While there's always a time and place for these, also make room to play! You can always do a fun shoe and display a well-turned ankle. More to the point, a shoe is where you score your fashion points when you are past Sex Pistols T-shirts and floral coronets (which you are).
.
Espadrilles and flip-flops
.
Similar result. But, as of now, these must be worn with a pedicure. The unwashed look is no longer a runner. (This applies equally to men. David Beckham post-match easily tips over into Rhys Ifans the morning after a very late night.)
.
Denim
.
You are never too old for the latest jeans and leather trousers. Some denim pieces even further elongate your legs, so make sure you go for the right fit and length. Simply put, we’re referring to the good ‘ol skinny denim jeans if you’re looking to amp up your style and overall figure. It’s always a classic piece in your closet.
.
Mid-length puffy sleeves
.
Puffy sleeves have always been a cult favourite for fashion designers including Alexander McQueen and Zimmermann. They’re just as classy and chic as they've always been making them a timeless look.
.
Ultimately find your own fashion groove. Regardless of trends or fads, stay true to your fashion identity and most importantly, have fun with it!
